One of the many activities we did during fall break was an “Island Circle” Bus Tour. Our intermediate members were super troopers, lasting (with only minor complaints) the entire day on the bus, only to stop for a quick bathroom and lunch break at Waimea Bay. We taught the members (most of whom hadn’t rode the public bus ever in their life!) how to use a bus transfer, read bus schedules and bus routes, and had them make valuable observations in a journal. We think they learned to appreciate the luxury of being driven everywhere, because by the end of the 7-hour day, all they wanted to do was run home or get picked up by their parents.
